We travelled on Sunday to beautiful Coyer Field to cover a UPSL Western New York Conference Playoff Semi Final between host team FCY New York and FC Berlin.

FC Berlin, coming off an upset win against Amlima FC, was hoping to cause a second shock in 4 days by upsetting the local side that last year won the regular season and playoff championships.

The game was contested from the start, with both teams trading chances, but in the 10th minute, it would be FCY New York that broke the deadlock, with their #10 Ali Alomari breaking the deadlock after an FC Berlin defensive error.

From there, the game was back and forth with FCY New York constantly testing the FC Berlin backline and Berlin struggling to get much going on the offensive side of things. The 45th minute would arrive and it would be 1-0 for the home team going into the half.

The second half, however, saw FCY being gifted a massive opportunity in the 46th minute as FC Berlin would concede a penalty shot that would give FCY the opportunity to extend their lead to 2-0, which they did with Robert Williamson burying his pen to give the homeside an extended lead and a secure grasp on the match. FC Berlin however, determined to keep pushing forward, would continue their offensive efforts and would be rewarded when Matheus Spina found a darting Justin Madjeski who calmly slotted the ball between the legs of the goalkeeper to breaking the clean sheet for FCY and giving FC Berlin some hope.

The boys from Canada kept pressing, but unfortunately, shortly after Maurice Channer would tap home a rebound and then Ali Alomari in the 92nd minute would put the game to bed for FCY.

FCY New York now heads to the conference championships and will face off against regular season champions RNYFC in what is sure to be an exciting matchup next weekend.
