Our former and current players shone at the League 1 Ontario Banquet this week

The 2024 League 1 Ontario season concluded with an awards banquet that celebrated the standout players from across the league. Former FC Berlin players left a mark on the event, securing prestigious honours in both the men’s and women’s divisions. Their stellar performances underscore the impact of FC Berlin's program and the talent it continues to cultivate.

Skublak’s MVP Streak
Striker Tomasz Skublak, now plying his trade with Scrossopi FC, clinched the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the second consecutive year. His dominance on the field during the season reaffirmed his status as one of the league’s premier players. Skublak’s journey is a testament to his determination and skill, having previously played for HFX Wanderers in the Canadian Premier League (CPL), Lori FC in Armenia, and Brandenburg 03 in Germany before joining FC Berlin in 2022.

Last year, Skublak’s accolades also included being named Forward of the Year and earning a spot on the League 1 Ontario First Team All-Star. His repeat MVP win in 2024 solidifies his legacy as a game-changer in the league.

Samantha Murphy’s Dream Season
Samantha Murphy had a season for the history books. The former FC Berlin forward, who played for the club from 2022 to 2023, swept the awards table. Murphy was crowned MVP, Forward of the Year, Top Scorer, and finally secured a place on the First Team All-Stars. Her exceptional contributions on the pitch highlight her versatility and finishing ability, making her one of the most feared forwards in League 1 Ontario. Sky is the limit for the young striker from Aurora, ON.

Other Honoured FC Berlin Alumni
The banquet wasn’t just a celebration of Skublak and Murphy. Several other former FC Berlin players earned recognition for their performances across various divisions:

  • Cloey Uddenberg (MF, Simcoe County Rovers) received an Honourable Mention in the League 1 Ontario Premier Division.
  • Logan Rieck (MF, BVB IA Waterloo) was named to the First Team All-Stars in the League 1 Ontario Championship Division.
  • Aiden Bertoli (DF, BVB IA Waterloo B) earned an Honourable Mention in League 2 Ontario.
  • Ethan De Souza-Swan (FW, North Mississauga B) secured a spot on the Second Team All-Stars in League 2 Ontario.
  • Ashley Greco (MF, North Toronto Nitros B) was named Midfielder of the Year in League 2 Ontario.

A Legacy of Excellence
The success of these players is a testament to FC Berlin’s commitment to nurturing talent and preparing athletes for the next stages of their careers. The club’s emphasis on technical development, strategic gameplay, and player growth continues to pay dividends, as evidenced by the accolades garnered by its alumni.

Congratulations to all the award winners and honourees! Their achievements reflect the hard work, dedication, and passion that define the FC Berlin ethos. Our club eagerly anticipates seeing more FC Berlin alumni make their mark in leagues around the world.
